The overall objective of the project "Online Reflective Writing in higher Education and Lifelong Learning" (ORWELL) is to support digital writing competences in higher education. Today, more than ever, students are immersed in a technology-rich environment that provides them with opportunities to improve and support fundamental skills such as writing. In the context of this project, 'digital' is interpreted in two ways: i) students need to learn to write in digital environments; ii) students need to learn to use digital tools to support their writing processes.
The specific objectives of the project are the following:
- To support higher education teachers in improving students' writing skills by using technologies in various disciplines.
- To support the writing skills of higher education students in digital spaces.
- To support collaborative writing practices.
1. Flip & Write in identifying betst practices in higher education to promote writing skills through the use of information and communication technologies. While this project will provide new tools to support individual and collaborative digital writing competencies at a general discipline level, it is important to identify practices to support how digital writing can take shape in a particular field or discipline.
a. Examples of writing in a digital environment for each of the main scientific disciplines (humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, applied sciences)
b. Exchange of best practices between teachers from different universities
c. Identifying neglected aspects of digital writing and redefining
2. Writing LAB
Creation of a digital learning environment for the implementation of the "Writing to learn and reflect Lab". In particular, training will be provided on how to write argumentative texts. This is an activity where students write, consulting different and varied sources dealing with the same topic, in order to support their own personal position.
3. Strengthening collaborative writing skills.
Students are often asked to collaborate on shared papers, making appropriate strategies for achieving necessary equal and shared responsibility. To achieve this, this deliverable will visualize text editing for pairs of students when writing a paper.
